When it comes to spin, Lance Armstrong has nothing on liberal pundits. On a night when Republicans took 60 seats away from House Democrats, six from the Senate, and could end up with more than 30 governors in state houses, the liberal spin machine went into hyperspeed as pundits, activists, and Democratic leaders attempted to oratorically cauterize a historic midterm hemorrhaging.
The hedging started early. First came the predictions, which seemed oblivious to both conventional wisdom and polling. "We're on pace to maintain the majority in the House of Representatives," said a sanguine Nancy Pelosi as voters headed out to the polls.
"Millions of Americans are proving the Washington pundits wrong," promised Chris Van Hollen. And Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine said his candidates were "doing as well, if not better, in early voting" than Republicans.
