Bridge Flap Blindsided Christie Aides

Two weeks ago, after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie delivered a two-hour explanation and denial of the Bridge-gate allegations against him, I spoke with a Christie aide who told me: “Yes, the governor was blindsided. And so were we.”

The aide went on to describe the shock within the office at the news that people in the administration had gone outside chain of command and behaved so recklessly, stupidly and deceitfully. For Christie’s office, it was not business as usual. It was not the Christie way. And if I had any doubts as to his lack of involvement, the aide assured me, they were unfounded.

This got me thinking about loyalty.
