August 7, 2018: "American adults spend over 11 hours per day listening to, watching, reading or generally interacting with media."[1]
According to the latest Nielsen Total Audience Report, there are big generational differences in the composition of Americans' media interaction. Watching television accounts for 60 percent of media time for those over 65. However, adults under 35 spend only 26 percent of their media time watching television. They spend 29 percent of their media time on smartphone apps.
