While many fear that robots will eliminate human jobs, a new report suggests that the robot revolution may create 21 million new jobs.[1] According to the tech consulting firm Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., those jobs will offset more than 19 million jobs lost through automation.

While the consulting firm expects plenty of new jobs to be created, the report warns that "wrenching transformations are never easy." However, the authors add, "A world without work is a fantasy that is no closer to reality in 2017 than it was 501 years ago upon the publication of Thomas More’s 'Utopia.'"

Cognizant identified 21 new categories of jobs they "expect to become prominent in short order." Some of these jobs will be low-tech and provide employment for those without strong computer skills. But The Wall Street Journal reports that many of these envisioned jobs "involve helping companies manage artificial intelligence and automation." [2]

If nothing else, several of the anticipated titles sound futuristic. Among the 21 new categories of jobs are data detective, chief trust officer, walker/talker, digital tailor, and personal memory curator.
