Google Delivers Sneak Peek of 'Glasses'

By    |   Wednesday, 30 May 2012 01:53 PM EDT

Google co-founder Sergey Brin gave the public a peek last week into the secretive experimental device “Project Glass,” or what might be known as “Google glasses” when they enter the public mainstream.

Brin appeared on California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom’s show on Current TV and let Newsom try on the glasses, which are a headset allowing wearers to take pictures and video of the world exactly as it appears in front of them, as opposed to as how it looks through a camera.

“You can easily forget you have them on, and sense the capacity of use in the future,” Newsom told Wired magazine. This was the first time the public could see what someone outside of Google thought of the device. Newsom said it was “fascinating . . . amazing” as Brin operated the touchpad controls on the side of the device.

Media and technology expert Robin Sloan told Forbes magazine the device represents “the next big battle between the tech giants: ‘Facebook Camera vs. Project Glass’ or ‘pictures vs. Vision.’”

Brin said the device may be available to the public as early as 2013, Forbes reported, and will cost between $250 and $600.
