What am I missing ? Once again the headlines in the media give a biased account of the truth.
All I am hearing is "Trump goes after Cruz," even a few highly respected major talk radio hosts have weighed in questioning Trump for his comments on Cruz.
What they have not analyzed, nor really gone into is the why.
Let me remind you, then you can decide.
Ted Cruz was recently taped saying this: "My approach, much to the frustration of the media, has been to bear hug both of them [Trump and Carson] and smother them with love . . . I believe gravity will bring both of those campaigns down and I believe the lion's share of their supporters will come to us."
Now when I heard this, it was exactly the kind of thing that I had not hoped from Ted.
While seemingly innocuous it reminded me frighteningly enough of Andy Griffin from the film "Face in the Crowd."
Cruz's behavior is a minor version of Griffin's character, Lonesome Rhodes, who seduces the American public while the cameras are on.
But behind the scenes, he is disgustingly duplicitous and comes to be found out having disdain for the public he is betraying.
I can hear Andy Griffin saying the lines "Bear hug both of them and smother them with love."
So we now know Cruz was feigning affection, he is actually just lying in wait for them to be killed off so he can suck the meat off their bones.
Another film that comes to mind is "The Godfather." Actually all 3 films display the technique of "keep your friends close but your enemies closer."
We find subtle betrayal throughout the films and in each case it is a character flaw that leads to someone's assassination. Or its like the open mike comment President Obama made to the Russians.
Remember when he assured a Putin emissary "wait til after the election"?
Well, we know how that turned out.
Lastly, while not a film, we have the bear hug and kiss of Judas.
Judas feigned love for Christ while all the while was plotting his betrayal. Well, of course the stakes are quite different, but I for one much prefer someone who is authentic; someone who will say to my face exactly where they stand.
Trump, responded to Cruz and took the gloves off but that wasn't before Cruz spit in his face, behind his back. And they are criticizing Trump's response.
What should he have done turn the other cheek?
Where I come from when someone is nice to your face but speaks behind your back they're called a politician.
We have had decades of politicians saying one thing then doing another.
Its time we hold them accountable.
