Women Paid Less in Obama White House

Forbes magazine has some interesting information in its 2013 list of the most powerful celebrities in the U.S.

Conservative Glenn Beck made more money than Oprah Winfrey over the last 12 months. Do you think Democrats will use this fact as ammunition (am I allowed to use that word in the same sentence with Democrat?) in their “conservatives wage war on women” propaganda?

The relative disparity in Beck’s $90 million in earnings, compared with Winfrey’s $77 million, undeniably shows a gap. Whether it proves anything is another question entirely.

For the last 50 years leftist Democrats have claimed that women suffer from crushing paycheck and salary discrimination emanating from a biased, patriarchal system that’s stacked against them. The picture Democrats paint is so bleak it’s a wonder Oprah found the courage to leave the kitchen and get a job outside the home.

Just last week President Obama held a ceremony to mark 50 years since the passage of the Equal Pay Act. He declared, “The day that the bill was signed into law, women earned 59 cents for every dollar a man earned on average. Today, it's about 77 cents. Over the course of her career, a working woman with a college degree will earn on average hundreds of thousands of dollars less than a man who does the same work. "

But like so many things the president says, it is simply not true. He and his fellow leftists distort the numbers to advance their political agenda. As Diana Furchtgott-Roth points out on "Real Clear Markets." The 77 percent figure is false “because it averages all full-time women, no matter what education and profession, with all full-time men.

Even with such averaging, the latest Labor Department figures show that women working full-time make 81 percent of full-time men's wages. For men and women who work 40 hours weekly, the ratio is 88 percent.”

And that is a half-truth at best. (Which, come to think of it, is more truth than we’ve been getting from this White House lately.) When you compare apples to apples: childless women between the ages of 35 and 43 with childless men of the same age, the women are paid more. Those women earn $1.08 to the men’s $1.00.

The market works and it rewards merit.

So the statistics don’t support Obama’s story and his actions in the White House don’t support what he’s demanding of the private sector. The Daily Caller compared male to female salaries among White House staffers and found in Obama-land women make 87 cents to the men’s one dollar.

Are you surprised? In this administration the only standard is the double standard. The really amazing thing is 51 percent of the American public is so gullible they still fall for it.
