More Tax Collection Means More Spending

Monday, 04 November 2013 08:26 AM Current | Bio | Archive

During the last fiscal year, the Internal Revenue Service collected a record $3.45 trillion in tax revenue. This is a river, a gusher, a cataract of money flooding into Washington, D.C., yet it still wasn’t enough for the spenders in the White House, Senate and the House of Representatives.

For in the same year, the federal government collected more revenue than it had in all our nation’s history, it also had a $680 billion deficit.

Let’s put that revenue in human terms: $3.45 trillion is the equivalent of every man, woman, and child sending Uncle Sam a check for $224.35 every week of the year. Or put another way, according to Time magazine, a stack of dollar bills 3.45 trillion high would reach from the Capitol steps almost to the moon. And that money runs through government hands like water.

It’s obvious the spenders in Washington don’t have a revenue problem, they have a spending problem.

What would it take to get Michelle Obama to exchange her “Let’s Move” program for an initiative that’s a real priority? Call it “Let’s Save.”

Instead her husband is spinning this calamity as good news and another example of his wise stewardship of the economy. “Our deficits are getting smaller. We don’t have to choose between growth and fiscal responsibility; we’ve got to do both.”

For Americans that live in the real world of paying your bills without picking the pocket of the nearest Chinese, “fiscal responsibility” means budgeting so you don’t have a deficit.

It means living within your means.

This is a concept that is completely foreign to Obama and the rest of the Democrats in Congress. This is why the Obama administration can spend $645 million dollars on a Healthcare.dud website that doesn’t work and no one loses their job.

This is more money than Facebook — owned by an Obama supporter — spent in the first six years of operation.

After all that money Facebook investors have stock and a functioning company. U.S. taxpayers have a 404 error and a growing deficit.

When Nancy Pelosi can claim with a straight face that there is nothing left to cut in government and the only solution is to increase taxes, you have a glimpse of the magnitude of the problem we face.

There is simply no solution under the current administration and the current Senate membership. Republicans are certainly not without sin when it comes to “fiscal responsibility,” but Democrats are totally unable to comprehend fiscal discipline.
