How will we be able to tell when the Democrat presidential candidates have reached Peak Pander?
Just when you think you’ve seen the pander of all panders (free college anyone?) along comes Elizabeth ‘Fauxcahontas’ Warren topping herself.
Liawatha has long been on the free college bandwagon. She figures the number of college students who foolishly took out loans they now can’t afford far outnumber the responsible students who graduated with no college loan debt. Alienating the responsible to bribe the spendthrifts in exchange for their vote looks to be a winning proposition.
Now she’s upped the giveaway ante by proposing reparations for homosexuals denied the opportunity to marry. Something no one even knew was possible as recently as 20 years ago.
RedState points out the obvious regarding Warren, “Elizabeth Warren has made a campaign of promising nearly every identity group in existence some form of monetary handout. Whether it’s race, age, or socioeconomic background, she’s got something for you. From reparations for the descendants of slaves to paying off student loans of millennials.”
Now she has the Refund Equality Act. Mic explains, “If the act passes, LGBTQ+ couples married in states where their union was recognized before gay marriage was legalized nationwide in 2013 could amend their past tax returns to receive IRS refunds. According to NBC News, that's approximately $57 million in total owed to countless couples who weren't able to jointly file federal tax returns prior to the Supreme Court's decision.”
This is just another episode in the left’s long-running taxpayer money grab — Victim Nation.
As RedState pointed out many laws change over time and have a financial component. Are we going to provide reparations to wacky-tobaccy growers who were legal in California and Colorado but still illegal according to the feds?
Fauxcahontas’ strategy appears to rely on lining up enough grievance groups, providing a suitable bribe and then collecting the votes. But sometimes the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
For instance it appears Spreading Bull’s nose for numbers has failed her. Piggybacking on the demands of activist blacks for reparations over slavery, with a demand for same-sex marriage reparations seems to us like it runs the risk of generating real anger in the black activist community. Slavery was a bit more intense as an issue than not being allowed to frame a marriage license on the wall.
Just a cursory headcount indicates there are many more voting blacks than there are married same-sex couples. Gaining one at the expense of the other is a poor trade. Almost as bad as taking $29.00 worth of trinkets for the island of Manhattan.
