California's Arguments Thin for Poor Obesity Test Results

The Associated Press (AP) has issued a grim report on the physical fitness of California’s school children:

"Annual state reports of the fitness test since the 2014-15 school year show a steady decline in the share of students scoring healthy. Students' scores have particularly dropped in the category of the fitness test that measures "aerobic capacity" — which can be tested in a one-mile run or by other methods. Other categories also test for flexibility and exercises like push-ups."

In a nutshell, many of the kids are weak and have no wind.

When the country was still normal the obvious solution would be to improve the quality of the training in physical education classes.

But this is California and instead they’ve opted continue the sissyfication of that generation.

The first step for educrats who’ve failed to do their job is always to blame the accountability measures. Right on schedule Gov. Gavin Newsom "wants to pause physical education tests for students for three years because of concerns about bullying and the test discriminating against disabled and non-binary students."

A spokesman for the California school Finance Department (?) "said the state has received complaints that the current examinations measurement of body mass index is discriminatory to non-binary students. A measurement calculated from weight and height, BMI screenings require students to select 'male' or 'female'."

Selecting "male" or "female" would make sense because those are the options our Creator has seen fit to give us, but again, this is California.

Strangely enough, the educrats have a point with their distaste for the BMI (Body Mass Index) standard, although not for a rational reason. BMI is another failure foisted on the populace by the federal government.

Boys pretending to be girls will tend to be obese on a BMI chart for women due to their denser bones and musculature. Girls pretending to be boys will show up as under-nourished due to their less dense bones and musculature. And that’s why California’s politically correct educrats want to jettison the test.

Rather than embrace another instance of a misguided and miniscule tail wagging the St. Bernard, the BMI index should be dumped nationwide because it’s a flawed index for everyone.

The feds use BMI to judge obesity, but BMI penalizes muscle the same way it does fat.

As far as BMI is concerned weight is weight. That’s why an all-American gymnast is rated as obese by those know-it-alls, while Mahatma Gandhi is held to be the perfect avatar of manliness.

As one observer pointed out "6-foot-2-inch and 240-pound [former California Gov. Arnold] Schwarzenegger would have been officially classified obese [by the BMI index] when he won the top bodybuilding title of Mr. Olympia in 1974."

By suspending the test for three years schools will be taken off the hook for student’s failure to run a mile under the time limit regardless of what sex the little darlings claim. And the same goes for doing the required number of push–ups.

We have our doubts about whatever California educrats decide. We doubt it will be to keep the test and increase the intensity of the physical fitness training.

It would be not a surprise us if the new test was a "life skills" exercise that tested the number and speed of trips to the refrigerator while watching a football game and the amount of effort required to push away from the table after a meal.
