Left's Gun Logic as Illogical as Ever

gun control and gun rights law enforcement

The left never tires of attempting to criminalize the possession of firearms by law-abiding gun owners, but it is much less zealous when it comes to real crimes committed with real guns. It appears the gun is still guilty (those inanimate objects), and will be kept in the hands of the police, but the individual that was holding the gun is not thought to be dangerous at all.

The New York Post reports on a set of startling statistics. "About 3,345 of the 3,793 perps arrested between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30 for firearms crimes — 88% — were let go, according to department data."

Only 450 of the arrested remain in jail.

We aren’t sure what criteria was used to distinguish between those released and those retained. Were the released bad shots who missed their target? Was the gun a smaller caliber and not as frightening to leftists?

Was the individual a "mostly peaceful protester" caught up in the heat of the moment?

The left doesn’t believe in cause and effect unless it serves the purpose of their narrative.

We do, however.

The cause of the majority of the majority of gun crime arrestees being released is "new reform laws that prohibit [judges] from setting monetary bail on some gun-possession cases. The crime became ineligible for bail in most circumstances under the Jan. 1 law changes, which mandate judges to release collared suspects, with no money down, on hundreds of charges considered 'non-violent.'"

Here’s the effect, shootings in New York City alone "have climbed to 1,433 and are on track to reach a 14-year high by the end of 2020."

The toll of dead and wounded is now more than 1,756 individuals.

If Black Lives Really Mattered shouldn’t someone who shot or killed a Black person, or was credibly accused of doing so, be kept in jail until his trial was complete?

BLM, "gun crime," abolishing bail and soaring crime rates have no discernable connection if you are a leftist.

New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea isn’t a leftist and he sees a definite correlation between releasing criminals from jail and soaring crime rates, "We have made staggering numbers of gun arrests, taking guns off the streets from felons, but when you look, three days later, four days later, those individuals are back on the street committing more gun violence."

We’re feeling generous today, so we’ll speculate that maybe the left really does believe crime is the gun’s fault, so seizing the gun and releasing the person makes perfect sense.

Out from under the malign influence of the evil gun, the newly released accused criminal will realize all his hidden potential and become a sterling citizen.

Only the science indicates otherwise. The criminal produces his own evil thoughts and the gun was just a handy tool to implement his plan. Back on the street and unpunished, he feels vindicated and goes on to continue his life of crime. At the expense of his neighborhood, but not at the expense of the leftists who caused his release.
