Atheists hate Christians. There is no room in their limited understanding for tolerance or acceptance. Everything atheists accuse Christians of doing, they do as a matter of course and with a vengeance.

Any manifestation of a belief in God or a commitment to Jesus is a standing affront to atheists. That’s why they wage a ceaseless jihad against Christians and Christian symbols that have any connection with government. Regardless of how slight the connection or small the governing body.

In 1925, almost 100 years ago, the American legion and local businesses in Bladensburg, Maryland, raised enough money to erect a ‘Peace Cross’ to honor the 49 area soldiers that were killed in World War I. The 40-foot-tall cross stands at the intersection of three roads. At the base the inscription reads: Dedicated to 49 WWI Heroes.

For almost 90 years the cross stood, silently honoring almost half a hundred men who gave their lives for their country when the American Humanist Association filed a federal lawsuit claiming the cross, according to Redstate: “violates the First Amendment’s separation of church and state.” The AHA also claims the cross “discriminates against patriotic soldiers who are not Christian, sending a callous message to non-Christians that Christians are worthy of veneration while they may as well be forgotten.”

Of course, the Peace Cross does nothing of the kind. The hatred of the AHA for all things Christian is so strong they are eager to insult the relatives of the dead honored by the cross. They are eager to have the government destroy the cross and remove a memorial paid for by private funds. And then they will publicly gloat over their victory.

That is the only “callous message” in play here. There is no discrimination by the silent sentinel of the cross. There is no imagined insult to the dead. And in fact, any rational person would ask what can the living do to disturb the dead?

If the AHA motive wasn’t sheer vindictiveness, it could raise funds from pagans and devil-worshipers. I would imagine that would be easier than persuading families to have their dead soldiers associated with such a vile project, but that’s not our problem.

Then the AHA could petition to have its memorial placed at the cemetery. That wish would be constitutional and should be granted. That is not what the AHA wants. Their goal is to simply destroy, damage, and depress Christians.

The case is now before the Supreme Court. We are hopeful the court will leave the cross intact and reject this brazen attempt to impose the lack of belief of pagans on a public space funded by Christians.
