You Can Move Ahead in Tough Times — This Company Proved It

baseball imaginings fantasy

I have not missed an opening day of baseball — well, since I can remember.

Even with the strikes we have always had some kind of opening day in The Bronx. Its the day when time stops, and we get to start over no matter how cold it is in March or April.

There is nothing like it in sports.

This year we know opening day will hopefully be some time in May, and it wont have that crispness, but we will welcome it back.

What are we going to do until then?

Those who know me know how much I love creativity, so we should all turn to a very creative idea the guys at Long Island, New York company, Strat-O-Matic, came up with.

If you are of a certain age you know the board game, and of a little younger age the online game, which gives you all the numbers to make you the general manager of your own team.

Its not a video game, its as close to the real thing as possible.

The game had fallen out of favor with younger people, but in recent years it has made a comeback as it adapted to the modern fan.

And this year, in the absence of opening day, they have taken a very creative and disruptive approach to give us some form of realistic baseball; they will play the entire season for us day by day.

No its not the same as watching Gary Sanchez or Gio Urschela, but Strat-O-Matic makes it feel real, and gives us the ability to think about strategy.

How so?

They are going to let fans and even people who have been around baseball like me, help set the lineups each day; a great way for a game that has been around for decades to adapt to a new fan.

Oh and for those who think that Strat is old school, you can play a game in minutes.

No it wont be the same as being at the stadium this week, but its a great alternative for us all. Thanks Strat-O-Matic and its legendary founder Hal Richman and his very smart staff.

Innovation in these challenging times is rare, and it has never been more important than today.
