If the greatest character actor in the world, Luis Guzman got to live out his dream and all of a sudden turned into a New York Yankee he would probably be DJ LeMahieu.
DJ is a player who can help the team both offensively and defensively.
He can marely play a roll, or he can take the lead and come up with the big hit.
In all his movies, Luis Guzman has been just that.
If you have seen him in "Carlitos Way," with Al Pacino, "Q&A," with Armand Assante, Boogie Nights," with Mark Wahlberg or in "The Count of Monte Cristo," with Jim Caviezel, he always manages to score the big moment and usually gets the big laugh in the film.
The fact that he has become one of the world’s most recognized actors has made Latinos globally very proud of their culture.
To many, he has given them an incentive to reach for their own dreams in the arts.
My favorite Luis Guzman movie is the acclaimed animated film "Henry & Me."
In movie Luis is the voice of Yanks pitcher Lefty Gomez.
He helps a little boy with cancer believe that he can do anything if he tries hard enough.
In "Henry & Me" Guzman stars with Richard Gere, Chazz Palminteri, and the late Hank Steinbrenner, as his dad the Boss.
Naturally, this writer is biased because I was the producer and remain proud of that cinematic project.
It was important for Luis to do this film because for years he has supported the Cristian Rivera foundation, an organization aiding children with cancer.
Prior to Luis becoming a full-time actor, he was a social worker; helping people is in his blood.
Being in my 49th season around the Yankees "universe," and to see the growth of the brand through the years has been phenomenal and fills me with pride. To see all parts of the baseball organization truly expand has been amazing.
For me, my favorite part has been the growth of the YES Network, naturally because I have always loved sports and the arts. YES isn’t just about producing Yankee games. It’s also about giving the fans great programming.
My favorite program on YES quickly became "Home Plate" a cooking show which brings celebrities and athletes and a famed chef together to do what the whole world needs to do to survive, cook, eat, talk, and laugh.
In each episode, Chef Marcus Samuelsson connects with sports figures, actors and other celebrities as they visit New York City restaurants specializing in food from their respective cultures and family heritages.
Celebrity guests will also discuss their careers and the role that food plays in their lives.
This show also highlights the diversity of food, and food options in New York City, as well as the hardworking people who prepare it.
From the chefs to the staff, celebrity guests will see the meal being made, helping with the process all while recollecting memories with Marcus.
Luis Guzman will be the guest star on the next episode of "HomePlate," appearing at one of his favorite Puerto Rican restaurants, Con Sofrito in the Bronx, with Chef Marcus.
That in and of itself should be a truly fun and tasty event.
