Why Do I Support George W. Bush?

Sunday, 15 February 2004 12:00 AM

Lately, due to several factors such as the primary elections of the Democratic Party, President Bush has been receiving a systematic attack on his government and even personal attacks.

The statements made by David Kay concerning weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the projected deficit for fiscal year 2004, the unstable situation in the Middle East and the inability of the economy to create more jobs have been the main reasons for the decrease of the president’s popularity.

But these factors should be analyzed in depth due to the particular situation the U.S. is facing in the world.

Let’s not forget that George W. Bush became the president of the U.S. in a very close election, with the country 50 percent Democrat and 50 percent Republican. Let’s also not forget that the economy was sliding and a recession was imminent when 9/11 of 2001 happened, making terrorism a reality in the U.S.

This act of terrorism altered not only the economy but also the lives and perceptions of all Americans, creating a tremendous upheaval in the country, but George W. Bush rose to the circumstances to become the leader the country needed.

The security of Americans is the most important factor in this nation, and President Bush post-9/11 started to improve and modernize the armed forces, created the Department of Homeland Security (a giant overhaul of many bureaucratic systems), restructured and enhanced the activities of the CIA and FBI, declared war on terrorism and above everything made Americans feel secure.

Congress also passed the USA PATRIOT Act in order to empower the government to make us more secure. During the three years as president of the United States and in the midst of all these deep changes, President Bush has remained in complete control, never weary and always firm, proving that character and ideology do mix in proper proportion and can work for the betterment of the country.

President Bush with his cut tax is reinvigorating the economy and with his fight against terrorism is changing the geopolitical system in the Middle East, and I am fully convinced, knowing of Bush’s ideology, that the government will be controlling its deficit during the next five years.

Above all, this president has created a new doctrine against terrorism: prevention, attacking terrorists and their supporters wherever they are, with the constant pursuit and disintegration of their forces.

Unfortunately, Bush’s opponents attack him mercilessly, without realizing that we are living in a very dangerous and difficult world and he is doing an exceptional job to help us during difficult times and right now needs the backing of all Americans.

What do we need in a president at a time like this? A real leader, one with conviction and character, a leader such as George W. Bush. As a proud American citizen I will be voting for President George W. Bush, because we need him as president for the next four years to complete his work and his vision for the future. In my 45 years of living in this country I have nver seen a president so truly compassionate and with such a true belief in his country and God.

With all due respect to his father, George W. Bush is ideologically the son of Ronald Reagan, and the history he leaves behind will determine that these two men, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, saved not only the United States but also the entire world.

Let’s not forget that the reason the United States is fighting terrorism is because of the inability of the Muslim extremists to cope with the advances of Western technology, especially those of the U.S. It is also due to envy. The United States has become the most envied country in the world while also being the light of the world.

I certainly hope that the ideological differences between the Democrats and Republicans in the next presidential election won’t cause a rift that will damage the basic structure of our country, because now more than ever the whole world needs the example and greatness of the United States.
