U.S. Soldiers Fired Upon in Fallujah

Sunday, 08 June 2003 12:00 AM

Gunmen fired on U.S. soldiers as they were patrolling the northern edge of Fallujah when they were attacked. One gunman fled, and no Americans were hurt, according to U.S. Central command.

According to CNN, the U.S. military released a statement that said pockets of resistance between Fallujah and Ar Ramadi appear to be locally coordinated.

"Coalition forces continue to conduct active patrols to locate these pockets and destroy or capture the remnants of the former regime," the statement said.

More than 1,500 troops were added to the strip between Fallujah and Ramada to control violence in the area.
