Her tactics that delayed Palm Beach and Broward from beginning their recounts have now enabled the Gore forces to "get" the votes they need. Mrs. Harris is going to count and then announce the overseas absentee ballots Friday night/Saturday morning. Thus, by Saturday afternoon we are all going to know the Bush overall margin over Gore. The present 300-vote lead will presumably be supplemented by several hundred more from these overseas ballots.

That figure will be known worldwide – instantly!

And guess what? The Gore troops busily interpreting dimpled chads will have their goal: Get more votes than that margin!

Furthermore, they will have days to do it – all because Mrs. Harris delayed the counting.

What she should have done is let them count and count and count. Around Friday night – while she tabulated the overseas absentees – she could have seen Gore’s vote. If it didn’t eclipse Bush’s total, she could announce everything and certify Bush as the winner. If Gore was ahead, she then could try to discredit the recounting – or get the Bush forces to fight for a statewide recount.

But this way Gore has a huge advantage.

Do we doubt that those teams of Democrats in Palm Beach, Broward and perhaps Dade can and will go out and dig up enough votes to give it to Gore?

I don’t have a doubt about it!

Other areas of future litigation: There is much funny stuff surrounding these overseas absentee ballots. So many stories of military men not even receiving their ballots. Is it crazy to imagine Clinton ‘arranging’ for military mail to get ‘lost’ for a few days before the November 17 deadline?

And how about stories coming from Israel of ‘back-dating’ the postmark?

The stories and rumors surrounding these ballots grow by the hour. One day I hear and read that Bush’s staff is very confident; then last night I hear they are now ‘subdued.’ Is that because the Lieberman factor has invaded these ballots, too? Is Gore going to do better in this mini-race than expected?

And what of Volusia County suddenly ‘discovering’ hundreds of uncounted absentee ballots? How can this be?

Well, in Nashua, New Hamsphire, a clerical mistake switched 1,000 votes to Gore. And in New Mexico a hand-misprint resulted in Gore getting 500 more votes – and the state.

With the soon-to-be-announced final Bush tally coming Saturday, don’t be surprised if some local official suddenly ‘finds’ a few hundred uncounted Gore votes over the weekend. Or maybe a previously uncounted box of ballots turns up in Miami.

Two weeks ago – when Rush Limbaugh and all the other smug Bush supporters were chortling their way to a ‘huge’ victory – I wrote here of this

Bush didn’t – and Daley is.
