Sorry, Mom. Not This Year.

Tuesday, 08 May 2001 12:00 AM

It seems a gay parent approached school authorities and complained that his child would be placed in an awkward position given that he has two Daddies but no Mommy.

So what was the school’s "politically correct” answer?

"The heck with Mother’s Day,” they responded. "We’ll just go ahead and ban it! And while we’re at it, we’ll ban Father’s Day, too!”

It’s difficult to understand how any school official could even seriously consider such a wacky idea, no less act on it.

This is typical of the Left. They continually seek opportunities to tear down the traditions of society, and they do so with special zeal when they can swoop in in response to a supposed "victim.”

In this instance, the "victim” is the child who – through no fault of his own – finds himself with two fathers, not exactly a common phenomenon.

But why should all of the other children – and their mothers – be deprived of one of the simple joys of childhood – the making and receiving of Mother’s Day gifts?

Most people have fond memories of crafting a Popsicle stick jewelry box or picture frame or some other such gift, wrapping it "all by yourself” and hiding it in a secret place for the big day.

And who could forget the joy of eagerly presenting it to Mom or the indescribable joy of Mom receiving it?

The Left doesn’t care. They’re protecting a "victim.”

At the same time, they’re really victimizing all of the other children who just happen to have a Mother and a Father.

That used to be something worth celebrating.

I believe it still is.

(By the way, she still has, and treasures, the Popsicle stick-covered jewelry box I made her for Mother's Day at school while in the second grade.)
