Gazprom provides, by estimate, up to 15 percent of the Russian federal budget. It is one of the pillars of Vladimir Putin's regime.

Gazprom has been engaged since 1997, jointly with French companies, in developing Iranian South Parse, a huge gas deposit.

Gazprom is not registered at the New York Stock Exchange, but managed to deploy some of its stock in the U.S. market in the form of American Depositary Shares (ADS).

The activity of Gazprom in United States should be checked because:

At the beginning of 2001 it planned to buy - or has bought already - a network of more than 1,000 gas stations in the U.S.

LUKOIL, which produces about 60 million tons of oil a year in Russia alone, is one more pillar of Putin regime.
