Putin Warns Bush on Iraq, Iran

In Moscow Thursday, Putin referred to U.S. hegemony when he complained that global difficulties were "based on the domination of one center of force."

Putin said he wished American influence was replaced by "a truly fair international system, based on law and respect for the interests of each state, and capable of ensuring equal security for all nations."

Since Sept. 11, Moscow has voiced support for the U.S. war on terrorism, though it has not broken ties with any of the terrorist-sponsoring nations it has close military and economic ties with, including Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Syria and Cuba.

Putin also said he wanted U.S. promises to reduce nuclear weapons to be codified by treaty. The Bush administration has promised to reduce nuclear warheads dramatically over the next decade.
