One Reporter's Opinion - Fighting Immigration Anarchy

Thursday, 25 August 2005 12:00 AM

Many media, Hispanic activists, the ACLU, and even high-ranking government officials including President Bush and the president of Mexico, have maligned these American patriots who are seeking to protect our homeland. But the Minutemen have persisted. Their numbers are swelling in spite of attacks by President Bush who condemns the project as "vigilantes," even though they have broken no law and pledge not to do so.

But the groundswell of American citizens continues: citizens who are fed up with seeing our country overrun by millions of illegals - foreign invaders who defy our laws, disrespect our culture, refuse to learn our language, yet drain us of our resources.

Like the patriots of the American Revolution, these brave citizens refuse to cower before powerful foreign tyrants, like those in Mexico City, demanding America accept their surplus people.

The patriots chosen for Sheehy's book are as varied as America, yet they underwent great personal transformations when they recognized our nation's peril. Like these great citizens, this reporter has been warning radio and television audiences over the past 35-40 years:

Yet with all this, when Congressman Tom Tancredo went to the White House and warned the president's top aide Karl Rove about the illegal alien crisis, what did it get him? He received a phone call from Rove who actually said to this American patriot, "Don't ever darken the doorway of the White House again." But that wasn't enough; Rove alerted the Republican National Committee not to contribute a dime to Tancredo's campaign for reelection. He didn't stop there: he also called upon the Republicans to find a candidate to run against Tancredo.

Telling the story of this national tragedy - the illegal invasion - the threat to our sovereignty - in his book, Fighting Immigration Anarchy, Daniel Sheehy has indeed provided us with a modern "Profiles in Courage." For this is a national emergency! As this is written, two of our nation's governors have declared a crisis - Richardson of New Mexico, and Negroponte of Arizona - with a further plea for help coming from the state of Virginia.

Recently the Minutemen won two first amendment battles. The ACLU and others have tried to block their appearances, but the judges ruled in favor of the Minutemen with a strong go-ahead.

However, we now know that this is a war on our southern border sponsored by the Mexican government and tragically aided and abetted by our own U.S. government; and a continuing encroachment of Mexico in the affairs of the U.S. is a threat to our security. The president and congress have shirked their primary responsibility - to defend the nation and to protect our sovereignty; they must cast aside the politics of cheap labor, special interests, foreign nationals and governments, and return to their pledge of allegiance to the American people.

The administration in Washington can no longer "deaf ear" these cries for help. As American citizens, we must fight back against the open borders juggernaut. Like the patriots of the American Revolution, today's citizens are determined to put an end to the invasion. They're saying to us all, "Wake up America! Time is running out!"
