Netanya Bombing Claims 4 killed, 58 wounded

Sunday, 19 May 2002 12:00 AM

Police said one of those killed was the bomber. The Ha'aretz Web site reported the bomber arrived at the market in a taxi and was dressed in an Israel Defense Forces uniform.

Both Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine took responsibility for the attack.

The Mogen David Adom ambulance service reported five of the wounded were in serious condition. Israel Radio said five sustained moderate wounds, and the rest were only slightly wounded.

Netanya has been a frequent target of Palestinian suicide bombers. The March 27 attack, known as the Passover bombing at the Park Hotel, killed 29 people and led to the IDF offensive in the West bank two days later.

"Anyone who though that the Palestinian terror campaign against Israelis is over is completely mistaken," David Baker, an official at Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's office, told Ha'aretz.
