After that decision by the canvassing board, dozens of Republican observers, who with Democratic observers looked on as the votes were recounted, were asked to leave.
They angrily tried to get into a room where the board was working, but were thwarted. They began chanting "Stop the fraud," "Let us in" and "Cheaters."
The canvassing board then decided to return to the large conference room where the count had been going on and allow the Republicans in to watch the count.
Now, citing its lack of time under yesterday's Florida Supreme Court ruling, and its lack of manpower, the board has decided to stop its hand recount, period.
This could possibly be the last gasp of the Gore presidential campaign; he was depending on the massive vote in Miami-Dade to pick up
enough votes to overtake Bush, particularly since Gore did not dent Bush's lead after the Palm Beach County recount.
In a statement, Bill Daley of the Gore team said they would immediately seek an order of the court to force Miami-Dade to complete its full hand recount.
