Libya Offers Financial Aid to U.S. Victims

Friday, 28 September 2001 12:00 AM

An official of Gadhafi Charity Institution, who refused to be identified, told United Press International that an amount of money was transferred in coordination with the U.S. Red Cross to help the victims of the attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and part of the Pentagon.

The official said the assistance was purely "humanitarian" and "to show solidarity with the victims of the latest incidents in the United States."

He did not disclose the amount of Libyan financial aid. He also said the institution offered to take care of children whose parents were killed in the attacks.

He said he hoped the United States "resorts to reason and solves the problem with patience," noting that U.S. movements in Aghanistan might have negative humanitarian impact on the Afghan people.

The official said the Libyan institution will continue to offer its humanitarian services to Afghan refugees.
