Juanita Broaddrick: I Fear President Hillary

Tuesday, 10 June 2003 12:00 AM

Clinton sexual assault accuser Juanita Broaddrick provided chilling new details of her one and only meeting with Hillary Clinton just a few weeks after she says her husband attacked her - and said the prospect that Mrs. Clinton may one day become president is "scary."

"I haven't been worried [about Hillary becoming president] up until this time, but that thought now is coming across my mind more and more," Broaddrick told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity. "And that is scary."

Mrs. Clinton's increasing stature as a prospective president, she said, compelled her to grant her first television interview since going public in Feb. 1999 with the charge of forcible sexual assault against Mr. Clinton.

Broaddrick pointed to a 1978 encounter with Sen. Clinton that she said "sent chills down my spine" at a fundraiser three weeks after the attack.

The Clintons' driver for the evening happened to be a friend of Broaddrick's who confided moments before her encounter with Hillary, "The whole topic of conversation [between Bill and Hillary] coming from the airport was you and are you going to be there."

After the Clintons entered the room, Broaddrick recalled them talking to a third party some distance away, and then pointing towards her.

"She made her way just as quick as she could to me. I almost got nauseous when she came over," the Clinton accuser said.

Broaddrick said that Mrs. Clinton "took a hold of my hand and said, I've heard so much about you. I've been dying to meet you."

Hillary thanked her for all she had done for her husband.

"I said, 'Well, thank you,' and started to turn and walk away," she recounted. "This woman, this little, soft spoken - pardon me for the phrase - dowdy woman that seemed very unassertive, took a hold of my hand and started to squeeze it."

Broaddrick recalled, "I could have passed out at that moment. . . She was just holding onto my hand because I had started to turn away from her. And she held onto my hand."

This time Hillary spoke with emphasis, telling Broaddrick, "Do you understand, [I mean] everything that you do."

Then, with a catch in her voice, the Clinton accuser told Hannity, "That's the first time I became afraid of that woman."

Broaddrick said she's been haunted by her encounter with Mrs. Clinton ever since, and remains certain that Hillary knew about what had happened with her husband.

After the interview, Hannity announced that he'd made repeated offers to the offices of both Bill and Hillary Clinton to give them a chance to rebut Broaddrick's account. Neither one responded.
