Jesse Jackson Lobbying Senate to Save Terri

Tuesday, 29 March 2005 12:00 AM

"[The Rev. Jackson] worked the phones personally," reports ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, who has been broadcasting from outside Pinellas Park's Woodside hospice, where Schiavo is dying.

"I saw him in this little store that has been donated to the Schindler family," Hannity said, adding that Terri's family greeted him with tears of gratitude as their last hope.

The talk host said Jackson made "legislative calls, a flurry of phone calls being made to state senators and state representatives. I know Governor Bush's office has also been contacted."

Hannity said Jackson's efforts provided an 11th-hour sliver of hope that Schiavo could be rescued if a bill is passed authorizing Gov. Bush to take custody of Schiavo.

"When I spoke to him before the show today, he said that in fact there is a strong possibility that he has already convinced two senators to change their position."

"There is a slight hope that tomorrow, when the Senate in Tallahassee goes back into session, something could potentially happen if three people change their votes," Hannity explained.
