Japan Sets Up Its Own CIA

Friday, 02 September 2005 12:00 AM

The new unit will include four teams of 10 specialists, who will be authorized to interview sources overseas to obtain information crucial to the troops' operations.

The formation of the intelligence unit will coincide with the agency's plans to set up a pool of 2,600 soldiers that can be swiftly dispatched for overseas missions.

The pool will allow the agency to handle missions larger than the approximately 600-member team it is currently supporting in Iraq, and to operate more than one mission at a time in different locations.
