Iraq Pipeline Fire Might Be Deliberate

Sunday, 22 June 2003 12:00 AM

The British Broadcasting Corp. repors the officials said the incident could mean a return to the fuel shortages that hit Iraq after United States-led forces toppled Saddam Hussein.

Iraq was set to resume limited oil sales Sunday from storage tanks in Turkey. Export plans could be hindered, however, by damage to oil pipelines.

The oil infrastructure in the country has come under attack several times in addition to Saturday's incident. Just 10 days ago another supply route from Iraq to Turkey was damaged.

In a separate incident near Hit, two U.S. soldiers were injured when their vehicle ran over a landmine, the BBC said.

The U.S. military also reported a grenade attack that killed one American soldier and wounded another. They were part of a convoy south of Baghdad.
