His execution was first reported Tuesday by ISNA, a news agency run by Iranian students.

IRNA quoted military officials as saying that Pedram had admitted "acting against Iran's Islamic regime for 10 years (1986-1996)," and traveled to the United States.

"In 1986 he fled the country and was hired by CIA, but he was arrested 10 years later when he flew to Tehran on a false passport," the agency said.

It said Pedram was first convicted by a military court, which was later upheld by the country's Supreme Court.
