Carol Roberts, a Democratic member of the election committee, said that based on the 1 percent sample, Gore may gain approximately 1900 votes if the hand recount of the whole vote in Palm Beach County is completed.
Roberts said the results indicated a full county-wide recount could affect the outcome of the election. Under state election law, the county can conduct a full manual recount.
After announcing the results, the election committee discussed the results. A judge overseeing the vote recount suggested that the committee seek the advice of Florida's Secretary of State before proceeding.
A Republican member of the committee warned that the 1 percent recounted took more than 10 hours and said the continuance of the recount could be "agonizing."
The Palm Beach committee rejected that suggestion and voted 2 to 1 to conduct a manual recount beginning Monday.
