Good for Martha Stewart

Of course not. But tragically, Americans seem to love the story of a success story being shot out of the sky.

While others are behind bars for shooting, stabbing, robbing, raping and extorting, Martha Stewart is in prison for doing what her broker told her to do. In fact, ask any American what they would do if their broker called and recommended unloading a stock, and the answer would be the same. We'd have done the same thing she did.

Then, evidently, she panicked. The courts have determined that her actions after she dumped the stock violated the law. While the decision was murky (after all, she was never even charged with insider trading; she was convicted of

Martha Stewart is an American success story. She's done what most of us hope we can do with our lives. She single-handedly created an empire and has delighted and inspired millions of people.

And so, watching TV reporters hoping to embarrass her one final time by showing her driving into prison was a sad experience. As the various networks kept cutting to their reporters hovering outside the prison gates, I started hoping that she would beat them and get into that prison without being photographed. I began rooting for her to make it in undetected.

And what do you know. She did just that. When I saw one of the female reporters standing in front of the gate with a perplexed look on her face, reading a statement from the prison that announced that Martha was already inside, I let out a cheer for Martha. Apparently, not a single vulture from the media was able to snap her picture or thrust a microphone in her face or shoot video of her being driven to prison.

Martha Stewart had the last laugh as her own Web site scooped the reporters staking out Camp Cupcake by announcing that she had begun serving her sentence without them even knowing it.

Good for Martha Stewart.
