FBI and Rule of Law

Friday, 11 May 2001 12:00 AM

Before you start moaning … consider a few things.

Remember – the government has that one asset that no individual or business in this country has. That asset is the ability to use legal force to deprive you of your property, your liberty or your very life.

To protect you from this immense government power our Constitution sets forth a concept we know as "rule of law.” This means that the government absolutely must adhere to certain set rules and procedures if it wishes to use it’s police power against you.

In the McVeigh case, the government failed to meet its responsibilities. This information should have been turned over to the McVeigh attorneys at the beginning. It wasn’t.

Forget McVeigh. He isn’t the issue right now. He’ll get what’s coming to him sooner or later. The execution should be delayed. Delayed not to protect McVeigh, but to protect our rule of law and to protect all of the people who will become the targets of government force in the future.
