Fall Out

1) Four carefully coordinated and trained suicide teams simultaneously hijacked four airliners in Boston, D.C. and Newark.

2) These 4 teams included jet pilots capable of flying the most sophisticated U.S. airliners.

3) All members of these 4 suicide squads were so dedicated and fanatical that they happily knew they were going to die when they seized the planes.

4) Everything they did was to inflict the

5) All 4 flights were loaded to the gills with gas - also to maximize the explosions.

6) All 4 hijackings occurred at the same time, so that even if the FAA grounded all other flights, some or all of these 4 had a chance to hit their targets.

7) As it was, 3 of the four were successful. Only the flight that crashed outside Pittsburgh failed - apparently due to the heroism of passengers who fought with the hijackers.

Now, let us examine the U.S. Government's role in this disaster:

1) Our intelligence community badly failed us. The CIA, NSA and subordinate agencies are

2) Within hours of yesterday's attack U.S. Government "intelligence sources" leaked to the media that they are "90% certain Osama bin Laden is responsible." Oh yeah? How do they know that? If these so-called 'intelligence sources' know so much righ t

3) Our government said back in 1993 that bin Laden was the mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing. What have we done since then to get this bastard?

4) Why should we believe we will be any more successful now in capturing/killing him than we were before? Interestingly, bin Laden denies any involvement. Not that anyone should ever believe a word he says, but usually these madmen are proud to take credit for these incidents.

6) Is it possible that

7) Is the U.S. Government rushing to judgement in saying that bin Laden did it? Are they then going to ignore other information and just focus on him?

8) Could bin Laden be the 'international Richard Jewell'? I have had so many unfortunate run-ins with CIA and DIA personnel that I just don't have any faith in them at all. None whatsoever. I think they often are our biggest problem.

What to do?

1) Something is very amiss at our airports if 4 flights could all be hijacked like this. We may have to emulate El-Al Airlines - and have incredibly difficult check-in procedures hours prior to boarding a plane.

2) Our loose immigration policy must change. Too many bad guys are getting into this country.

3) If we can definitively prove who did this then we must nail them. The full force of the U.S. military must be - and will be - available for any retaliation. But the key question is:

4) Watching G.W. Bush this morning left me with an empty feeling. Tough rhetoric about an "enemy." But who is the enemy? Pearl Harbor was clearly the work of Japan. This is more difficult because there is great doubt over the enemy in this case.

Other political fall-out:

1) All politics has changed now. No more talk of deficits, 'lock boxes', and other domestic concerns. Everyone has refocused on this one matter of international terror.

2) George W. Bush has the American people behind him - for now. If he squanders that support - like his father did after the Gulf War - he, too, will be a one-term president.

3) Let us all pray for the future of our country.
