Faith Hill Tops AMA Nominations

Marc Anthony and Creed received three nominations each.

Hill was nominated for favorite female artist as well as country and adult contemporary female artist, and favorite country album, for "Breathe."

Anthony was nominated for favorite pop/rock male artist, as well as favorite adult contemporary and Latin artist.

Creed was nominated for favorite pop/rock band, duo or group and favorite album, as well as favorite alternative music artist, for "Human Clay."

The nominations were announced by producer Dick Clark and the country music trio SHeDAISY.

Eminem, Celine Dion, Alan Jackson, Britney Spears, 'N Sync, Toni Braxton and Sisqo had two nominations each.

In the battle of the boy bands, 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys were nominated for favorite pop/rock band, duo or group, but 'N Sync got the upper hand when their album "No Strings Attached" was nominated for favorite album and the Backstreet Boys' "Millennium" was overlooked.

Toni Braxton was nominated for favorite soul/rhythm & blues female artist and album, for "Heat." Sisqo was nominated for favorite male artist and album in the category for "Unleash the Dragon." Destiny's Child was nominated for favorite band, duo or group and favorite album in the category for "The Writing's on the Wall."

In the country category, Alan Jackson was nominated for favorite male artist and favorite album for "Under the Influence."

The nominees for favorite soundtrack are "Coyote Ugly," "Mission: Impossible 2" and "The Nutty Professor II."

The recipient of this year's "Award of Merit," for "outstanding contributions to the musical entertainment of the American public," will be announced later.

Previous winners include Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, Little Richard, Whitney Houston, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry, Ella Fitzgerald, Irving Berlin and Bing Crosby.

Winners are chosen by the public, based on a national survey of approximately 20,000 people.

The 28th American Music Awards will be presented on Jan. 8, 2001, in a three-hour telecast from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, hosted by Britney Spears.
