Explosion Hits KFC Restaurant in Lebanon

Thursday, 09 May 2002 12:00 AM

The explosion was apparently linked to calls for boycotting U.S. products because of what the Lebanese view as blind support in Washington of Israel’s campaign against Palestinians.

An explosive charge, estimated at one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of TNT, went off in front of the KFC restaurant in the Bahsas area, according to security sources.

Lebanese security forces cordoned off the area and began an investigation.

Dozens of young Lebanese have staged peaceful protests in front of several U.S. companies, such as McDonald's and Starbucks restaurants in Beirut and eastern Lebanon.
