7 Super Dividend-Paying Stocks to Buy Now

When it comes to high prescription drug costs, some companies are mad as hell and they aren't going to take it anymore.

Now two employer groups organized to lower members' drug costs are growing - and they're ready to use their clout to increase transparency in the pharmacy marketplace in order to reduce prices.

The HR Policy Association's Pharmaceutical Purchasing Coalition has recruited three pharmacy benefit managers (PBM) - Aetna Pharmacy Management, MedImpact Healthcare Systems and Walgreens Health Initiatives - to follow its high standard of price transparency.

The PBMs charge employers discounted rates for both retail and mail-order drugs, then pass along savings based on higher utilization and allow their contracts to be audited for compliance.

It's estimated that the coalition's 52 members, which represent $3.7 billion in drug spending and 5 million lives, could save up to 9% on drug costs.

The coalition is only open to HR Policy Association members, which must have at least $750 million in annual revenue to join.

But the coalition is hardly alone.

Another group, the Rx Collaborative (formed by consulting firm Towers Perrin) also aims to slash prescription drug costs through bulk purchasing and pricing transparency.

Since February, that coalition has grown from 35 members and $800 million in drug spending to 52 members and $1.4 billion in drug spending. Working with Medco Health Solutions, the coalition estimates it can lower drug costs by 2 to 10%, says Ron Lyon, Towers Perrin's national pharmacy practice leader.
