The Oregonian newspaper said an ELF statement issued Monday announced that its members had torched three cement trucks on April 15 to protest the concrete company's mining operations on a 40-acre site in the Columbia River Gorge.
"Let this be a warning to all the greedy corporations who exploit our Earth's natural resources," the terrorists' communiqué said.
ELF has taken blame for a rash of arson fires targeting companies involved in timber and similar natural resources industries.
The predawn April 15 fire, which ELF said was triggered by four containers of gasoline, had been ignited by a timing device and caused $210,000 in damages. The fire marked the first time the group had struck inside the Portland city limits.
ELF accused Ross Island Sand & Gravel of "stealing soil" and mishandling toxic materials at its mine site on Ross Island near Dallesport, Wash.
