Democrats Wanted 'History-ectomy' on 'Path to 9/11'

"We're in science fiction now," said the late beat poet Allen Ginsberg. "Those who control the symbols control the race."

The culture war between right and left has largely been a battle to control the media and how they depict each side. For most of our lives, the mainstream media have been controlled almost entirely by the liberal left.

The left, not surprisingly, has used the media as a propaganda vehicle to portray conservatives and Republicans as evil and liberal-leftist Democrats as noble and good.

This alternative reality concocted by the dominant liberal media on rare occasions cracks for an instant, and the light of reality bursts through. That happened this week with the ABC docudrama "The Path to 9/11." Liberal Democrats tried almost violently to shut off this light before it exposed the ugliness they had kept concealed in darkness, with media complicity.

This drama, based largely on the 9/11 Commission Report, showed how President Bill Clinton and his administration fumbled away multiple opportunities to destroy Osama bin Laden, who later masterminded the 9/11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans.

Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (whose diplomat father served Communist Czechoslovakia) and National Security Advisor Sandy Berger (caught stealing self-incriminating documents from a government facility) were among the loudest claiming that ABC's docudrama misrepresented their actions.

Democratic senators joined their leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, in a letter to Robert Iger, chairman of ABC's parent company, Disney, warning him that "a free broadcast license" for ABC stations is contingent on ABC's "obligation" to "serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events."

The most powerful Democratic lawmakers, in other words, threatened to take away the broadcast licenses of ABC stations if ABC refused to delete the truth about Democrats from this docudrama. ABC, intimidated, re-edited its drama. "The Path to 9/11" also depicted President George W. Bush's administration in an unfavorable light, but Republicans made no similar totalitarian threat against ABC.

This is the same Democratic Party that at its 2004 National Convention gave a place of honor in its Presidential Box to "documentary" filmmaker and smear-monger Michael Moore, the Leni Riefenstahl of the neo-Marxist Left.

Perhaps anticipating the Democratic loss in the 2000 elections, Clinton operatives in 1999 created the TV series "The West Wing." This NBC series depicted the continued reign of a liberal Democratic president, a Nobel laureate economist who — thanks to liberal screenwriting — always outsmarted Republicans.

As this series (aptly nicknamed "The Left Wing") approached its final episodes, some of its writers proposed letting a liberal Republican replace the saintly left-wing President Josiah Bartlett (Martin Sheen). Senior writer and former Democratic Capitol Hill apparatchik Lawrence O'Donnell (also one of several ultra-partisan liberal "journalists" on MSNBC) rejected this tiny step toward reality.

To depict a Democratic presidential defeat even by a RINO (Republican In Name Only) liberal Republican played by Alan Alda, said O'Donnell, would have been too "emotionally wrenching" for Democratic viewers. The series ended with the fantasy election of another ultra-liberal Democrat.

As "The West Wing" was going off, ABC launched its own liberal fantasy of an uber-liberal female president. The ABC series, called "Commander in Chief," which starred actress Geena Davis, promptly sank into ratings quicksand and was canceled.

In addition to these "shadow" liberal presidents, liberals have also created their own "shadow" fantasy newscasts, two of which appear on the cable channel Comedy Central. Comic Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" offers a steady diet of nasty direct attacks against Republicans and conservatives.

Its smarter spin-off, hosted by comic Stephen Colbert, "The Colbert Report," mocks conservatives and Republicans through its ongoing parody of Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor."

But who can say where fantasy ends and reality begins in mainstream media newscasts, especially now that CBS (whose Viacom parent company also owns Comedy Central) has hired Katie Couric (a hard-core partisan liberal whose late sister was a political leader of the Democratic Party in Virginia) to anchor its evening newscast.

For the past five years this mainstream media kept you from seeing images of 9/11's attacks, lest this benefit President Bush.

This is the same CBS whose "60 Minutes" Executive Producer Don Hewitt boasted that he personally elected President Bill Clinton. He did this with the famous Bill and Hillary interview aired at the end of CBS's broadcast of the Super Bowl.

Viewers were never told that Hewitt gave the Clintons total editorial control of the interview, not only providing them the questions in advance but also agreeing that the Clintons could keep retaping their answers to each question over and over until they did a "take" they liked. In other words, CBS and Hewitt gave the Clintons a "commercial" worth tens of millions of dollars.

"60 Minutes" has continued this tradition of airing a pro-Democratic or anti-Republican story on almost every broadcast. MSNBC has joined this tradition of free political ads for Democrats with its entirely one-sided Republican-bashing, Democrat-boosting "Countdown" show starring egomaniac Keith Olbermann.

CBS's former anchor Dan Rather attempted a coup d'etat against President Bush with a story based on phony documents.

Even now, six years after voters removed Democrats from control of the White House and both houses of Congress, the mainstream press ignores Republican committee chairs. Instead, it interviews Democratic politicians as though they were still in charge, as if these wished-for images could change reality.

And maybe they can.

Remember George Orwell's dystopian novel, "1984," and its hero, whose job was to rewrite history so Big Brother would always be correct? Senator Reid and his threatened liberal-leftist history-ectomy likewise rewrites history.

"Those who control the present control the past," said Big Brother. "Those who control the past control the future."

American theaters soon will soon show "Death of a President," a docudrama from British television depicting the 2007 assassination of Republican President George W. Bush.

Many of today's left-liberals seem mind-controlled, deluded, programmed with fanatical hatred, and deeply totalitarian. Will this docudrama hypnotize some of them into imitation?
