Although a number of polls show Bush making great gains in California, Davis
said he was confident the state would still vote Gore by the time the polls
close tonight at 8 PST.
"I think the really late surge was on behalf of Al Gore. I believe
California will be in Al Gore's column," Davis said.
"I think there will be a very
high turnout. This is a very close election across the country. People
realize that every vote counts, and I am encouraging all Californians
obviously to vote for Al Gore, but vote no matter what the Eastern pundits
say about who's going to win this election.
"Our vote matters too, and we
ought to weigh in. And I hope they will, and I think they will," Davis said.
In Oklahoma, which has eight electoral votes, Keating admitted he was nervous
but optimistic.
"I'm chomping on all my fingernails chomping on all my toenails,"
Keating said. "We're not overconfident. We're cautiously optimistic, but it
is a very close race, just like Gray says. It's going to be right down to
the wire.
"I think we're going to win Arkansas. We have this state my
state up by probably 30 points even though we're heavily registered
Democrat. My legislature, for example, is two-thirds Democrat. I think we're
going to carry Tennessee.
"I think what's really interesting about this race is that in Texas people
are saying, 'Well, the reason the popular vote is going to be so heavily for
Bush is because virtually every Texan is going to vote for him,' Keating
added. 'That speaks very, very wonderfully of George Bush as a person who
will bring us together.' "
