"For the good of the country, we have got to reach an ending point here," the liberal Reich said in a Monday morning interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Reich said he thought Gore would make a better president than President-elect George W. Bush will, but the country needs closure.

"I have great doubts about whether it is wise for the country, for the purpose of just healing all of the wounds, for the vice president to pursue and contest the results in Florida."

He said he shared the disappointment and frustration that many Democrats were experiencing, "but with three weeks of counting and recounting, you've got to, at some point, have some closure, some end here."

He admitted the system was not perfect, and he said he understood how difficult it must be for a candidate who has poured his heart and soul into the presidential race to admit defeat.

Reich supported Democrat Bill Bradley in the presidential primaries.
