Broward Flip-Flops and Accepts Pregnant, Dimpled Chad

Previously, Broward has accepted as votes only holes clearly punched through with chad hanging by one or two corners.

Under the new rules adopted after pressure from the Democratic Party, counters can accept votes that appear to have indentations but have not been pushed through.

Counters are allowed to determine the "intent" of the voters.

The new standard could be a boon to Gore, with more than 10,000 ballots having already been set aside as having pregnant or dimpled chad.

So far, Gore has gained only 88 votes from the Broward recount. That number could spiral upward if the recount continues with the new rules.

The Broward action came after a Friday request from Florida Circuit Judge John Miller, who told the board to "reconsider its decision and warned he would order them to do so if they did not examine the ballots to see if a voter's intent could be determined," Reuters reported.

On Sunday the Gore campaign asked Florida's Supreme Court to require all counties to follow a similar standard.
