Big Victory for NewsMax

Monday, 21 January 2002 12:00 AM

NewsMax and our readers scored another big victory against the politically correct forces that have been trying to strangle America.

Last week, the New York Fire Department announced that it would not proceed with the proposed "Flag Raising at Ground Zero" memorial that would have replaced two out of three white firefighters depicted in the famous photo with a more racially diverse pair.

New York has become so victimized by the PC thought police that when a clay model of the new PC memorial was unveiled two weeks ago, not one member of the press who was present reported to the public this outrageous manipulation of history.

The censorship continued until NewsMax's Carl Limbacher first broke the story that the city planned to replace two white firefighters with a black man and a Latino-looking man.

NewsMax has been the only online news agency to bring national attention to this outrage.

Only after repeated reports by Carl on NewsMax and a national firestorm did New York City relent. Now, it won't go forward with its PC version of "Flag Raising."

This is not the first time NewsMax and our readers have stepped in and made a great difference.

Our loyal readers will remember it was NewsMax that spotlighted Dan Rather's censorship of the Gary Condit story.

Within days of our headline criticisms, Rather relented and reported the Condit story.

And last year, NewsMax and our readers led the national effort that resulted in Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee granting Whitewater witness David Hale a commutation of his sentence on trumped-up charges.

These and other NewsMax victories, too many to list here, are feathers in NewsMax's cap.

Still, these examples underscore that America is gripped by politically correct insanity.

The fact that NewsMax alone shouted that the emperor has no clothes indicates that in the wake of 9-11, the establishment liberal media have not lost their grip.

Liberal media PC-thinking should have evaporated after the collapse of the World Trade Center.

It was NewsMax that first reported how PC thinking had virtually destroyed the CIA, leaving us blind to attack.

FBI agent Gary Aldrich says the same PC craziness undermined the FBI.

Aldrich reports that under the Clintons, the FBI became so consumed with political correctness and "diversity policies" to recruit gays and lesbians that the bureau lost its focus as the nation's premier investigative agency.

So far, it's not clear that the wake-up call of 9-11 has been heeded.

The media and their Democratic friends in Congress are still angry about any sensible and reasonable profiling effort to weed out Muslim terrorists.

Still, Congress won't allow pilots to be armed, even after a near disaster over the North Atlantic when a terrorist came close to bringing down an American Airlines flight by igniting explosives in his shoes.

With no sky marshal, it was left to several passengers to pummel the man into submission.

It looks like America may continue down the road of PC nuttiness a while longer. Let's hope it won't lead to catastrophe.
