Amtrak Train Detained in R.I.

It was unclear immediately whether the man was linked to an investigation into terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

A man wearing a long beard and a green turban was taken into custody and driven away from the station in a police cruiser to the cheers of the gathered crowd.

Mayor Vincent Cianci said authorities told him they were looking for three or four people who allegedly eluded police in Boston, where the FBI also reportedly took several people into custody.

The commuter train from Boston was stopped as it arrived in Providence about 2 p.m., and passengers were get off and wait on the platform. The station itself was evacuated as a bomb squad with dogs and equipment searched the train.
