Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) reportedly called President Bush's request for a 57 percent increase in missile defense spending "unjustified," yet even a majority of Democrats in the poll - 57 percent - gave their overall support to missile defense.

Such support for the program is growing, despite the fact that national missile defense would not have prevented the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
