Ambassador John Bolton Remarks on U.N.-FBI Arrest

Friday, 02 September 2005 12:00 AM

Ambassador Bolton: "No, I'm just going to do the one statement. Within the past few days, we received a request from the Department of Justice to seek a waiver of the privileges and immunities of Vladimir Kuznetsov, a Russian national who is the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions.

"We made the request yesterday to waive diplomatic privileges and immunities. We want to thank the Secretary General for his personal and very prompt decision to waive privileges and immunities. Our understanding was that Mr. Kuznetsov was brought into custody yesterday evening. This is now a serious law enforcement matter and we will have no further comment.

"Any comment that is appropriate will be made by federal law enforcement officials. But we wanted to thank the Secretary General again for his personal decision to waive privileges and immunities, which was done very promptly. Thank you very much."
