Zogby Poll: Job Approval Up for Obama, Congress

By    |   Tuesday, 11 January 2011 03:07 PM EST

Politicians in Washington, D.C., are apparently doing something right. A new Zogby Interactive poll shows that President Barack Obama’s approval rating rose to 43 percent as of Jan. 4, after hitting a record low of 39 percent Dec. 10. Congress’ approval rating also has improved. And more people now believe the country is headed in the right direction, according to a new Zogby Interactive poll.

Changes in attitudes among Democratic voters account for much of the change. They approve of Obama's performance to the tune of 86 percent, up from 73 percent Dec. 10.

As of Jan. 4, 29 percent of respondents see the nation headed in the right direction, up from 22 percent Dec. 10. Congress’ job approval rating gained to 21 percent from 10 percent.

“Democratic voters are pleased with both the president and Congress for their success at the close of the 2010 session. However, independents apparently still need to be convinced," says pollster John Zogby.

"Now, with Republicans running the House, it's a whole new ballgame," Zogby adds.
