The Republican chairmen on intelligence committees responded Sunday to the White House demand for a probe on whether former President Barack Obama abused his executive powers by allegedly ordering a wiretap of Trump Tower.

"One of the focus points of the House Intelligence Committee's investigation is the U.S. government's response to actions taken by Russian intelligence agents during the presidential campaign," California Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said in a statement Sunday.

"As such, the Committee will make inquiries into whether the government was conducting surveillance activities on any political party's campaign officials or surrogates, and we will continue to investigate this issue if the evidence warrants it."

According to CNN, North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, echoed a similar stance.

"As I've said since the beginning and have repeated since, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence will follow the evidence where it leads, and we will continue to be guided by the intelligence and facts as we compile our findings," Burr said

Both Nunes and Burr have been previously skeptical of allegations of ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
