Rep. Will Hurd on Travel Ban: Sharing Info Vital for National Security

The sharing of information between allies is vital to national security and the implementation of the temporary travel ban, Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, said Friday.

The states' challenges to the travel ban are not likely to gain any traction because "the Supreme Court has spoken," Hurd, a former official at the Central Intelligence Agency and member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

"We should be focusing on doing other things, like getting information to our allies," he added.

"On the Homeland Security Committee, I sat on a task force last year that looked at foreign fighters. These are Americans going in to Iraq and Syria, fighting with ISIS, and coming back," he continued.

"And some of the things that we learned are that our European partners were not checking the travel documents of every known traveler. They were checking one out of every three, which is crazy.

"We also found they weren't checking the names of known travelers against watch list information that we had been providing. If we get the right information to the right people at the right time, we keep terrorists on the run and off our shores," he added.

Hurd also noted he introduced a bill that would improve sharing among databases.

Another bill focuses on security units that are at "25 or 30" embassies, Hurd continued, but "we should have that in all of our embassies.

"These are folks that have access to as much information as we possibly have and are working with our embassies when it comes to people applying for visas and making sure that we're vetting them."

Hurd emphasized the danger of foreign fighters from his experience in the CIA.

"When I had the honor of serving shoulder to shoulder with some patriots in the CIA, I saw the threats coming to this country, so it's real."
