White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismissed earlier comments Tuesday from Chief of Staff John Kelly the Russia probe has been distracting for President Donald Trump, telling reporters "you seem completely obsessed with this."

"I don't think it's affecting his ability to get the job done," she said at the daily briefing. "That wasn't the point he was making.

"You seem completely obsessed with this, while a lot of other things are happening around the country that, frankly, people care more about.

"The media refuses to cover it," she said. "That's the distraction."

Kelly told Laura Ingraham on Fox News on Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation was "very distracting" to President Trump, even though the White House said the counsel's indictments had "nothing to do" with the president.

"It is very distracting to the president, as it would be to any citizen, to be investigated," Kelly said.

Trump himself ripped the "fake news" media Tuesday for "working overtime" on the indictments of former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his longtime aide Rick Gates — and in trying to connect the charges to Russia collusion.

"If you look at the records, the questions I take in — day in and day out — have far more to do with an investigation that, frankly, Americans don't care a lot about," Sanders told reporters.

She said the White House believed Mueller's investigation would "wrap up soon."

"We hope that's the case, in large part because we know that the facts are on our side.

"There was no collusion.

"And we are looking forward to moving forward," Sanders said. "We're hoping that you guys can as well.

"We can actually start talking about and focusing on some of the things that . . . we feel the American people would rather the conversation be turned toward."
