White House: 'Not Abnormal' for People to 'Come and Go'

The Trump White House "is an intense place," press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday, "and it's not abnormal that you would have people come and go."

"We're continuing to do great work," she told reporters at the daily briefing. "We're continuing to focus on the president's agenda.

"That's what we're all here it to do."

Sanders beat back assertions the Trump White House was operating under "chaos" in light of Gary Cohn's resignation Tuesday as economic adviser — the 19th administration staffer to leave or be terminated since the president took office in January 2016.

"If it was [chaotic], I don't think we would be able to accomplish everything we've done," Sanders said. "The economy is stronger than it's been in ages."

She said Islamic State terrorists were "on the run," Trump was "remaking" the federal judiciary, and "jobs are coming in at record numbers.

"There are historic things that have taken place in the first year," she said. "Sounds like a very functioning place of business to me."

Sanders added the turnover did not reflect any leadership issues with President Trump because "the first year of the administration has been so successful.

"We've actually accomplished a great deal of what the president campaigned on and set out to do.

"We've only been here just over a year," she continued. "We certainly feel like there isn't an issue.

"Actually, there's been a great deal of success and a great story to tell about the president's first year."

Further, the American public should continue to maintain its confidence in the president, Sanders said.

"The confidence should be in the president, the policies he has outlined and the agenda he has laid out.

"That's what the American people voted for," she said. "We've seen that enacted over the last year and a half."
